Blackfoot Reservation

The Blackfeet Reservation, home to the Blackfeet tribe, encompasses approximately 1.5 million acres of land. Of the roughly 15,560 enrolled tribal members, about 7,000 reside on or near the reservation, with nearly 27 percent possessing three-fourths or greater Indian blood.

Situated along the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains in northwestern Montana, the reservation shares borders with Canada to the north and Glacier National Park to the west.

In terms of economy, the reservation hosts a manufacturing plant producing pencils, pens, and markers, along with several other businesses under Siyeh Development, Inc. Ranching and farming are predominant land uses, with wheat, barley, and hay being the primary crops.

Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy the reservation's natural beauty, with eight major lakes and 175 miles of fishing streams. Tribal permits are necessary for fishing, and guided tours are available through Fish, Wildlife & Parks. Additionally, the tribe operates four campgrounds for visitors.

For those interested in the cultural heritage of the Blackfeet Nation, the Museum of the Plains Indian showcases the creative achievements of North American artists and craftspeople, featuring artifacts of the Northern Plains Indians. Blackfeet Community College offers two-year associate's degrees in the Arts and Sciences, with ongoing expansion plans.

Blackfeet Cultural History Tours provide insights into the historic and cultural landmarks of the Blackfeet Nation, offering half- and full-day tours.

The Blackfeet Tribal Business Council, composed of nine members elected from four districts, oversees tribal governance, with elections held in June of every even-numbered year.
